This campout is designed to be an informal family campout.
Participation in any or all activities is optional.

You do not need to sign up unless you are planning on going horseback riding - see below. If you cannot attend the whole time at least try to attend some of the time.

You need to bring everything you will need such as tent, drinking water, food, cooking utensils, etc. We will bring wood for the group campfire and smore fixings. For cooking we will have two large camp stoves available and some pans and cooking utensils but we will have to share. Each stove has 3 large burners. We also have large griddles that we will bring, We will set up the cooking area with a cover and lighting and wash basins for all to use.

There are no showers or flush toilets available on our site but you can use the showers and restrooms at the main campground (you will need a pass from us and you will need to drive there though). There is no electric or water available on-site. We will bring some large water coolers with water for cooking, cleaning, hand washing, etc. If you need a tent there are plenty of us that have more than one so just let Kim Gash know and she will track you down one to borrow.

The Apple Butter Festival is also going on at Pioneer Village which is not very far from the park. Here is a link to the information on last years activities and it is very similar except they have different singers and different reenactments going on this year. The singers are Anne and Phil Case and they will perform at 1 and 3. The times and costs are the same.

Horseback Riding – This is optional. If you want to go on Sunday then Bill Bowman will arrange everything but he needs to know by EOD on Friday if you are going. It opens at 10:00 but you probably don’t start the ride until 10:30. The Cost is $25 for 1 hour. It is cash only If your children are young and/or timid it may not be for you. You have to be able to make the horse listen and not let them eat. If you want to go another time other than Sunday you can make your own arrangements..

Cooking Tips: As mentioned above, for this campout you need to bring your own food. It can be as simple or complex as you want to make it. The following link has some easy cooking ideas from a boy scout troop. They might be fun for you to try. Also if you can cook something ahead of time and just plan to warm it up that will save time. I cooked skyline Chili and spaghetti and ham and bean soup last year and just kept it in the cooler until we were ready and then just warmed it up in my pans from home. If there are several going from your den maybe you can go in together and split it up so you don’t have to bring everything. Don’t forget tableware. Also if it is cold please make sure to bring hot chocolate and other warm foods like soup.
