1st Place Trophy

Pack 730's Annual Pinewood Derby - 2008 Edition

2nd Place Trophy
The Pinewood Derby is a fun, exciting, and competitive event. Cub Scouts are provided with a car kit to build. They are later invited to race their creation against other scouts. Scouts will receive their kits in January and should begin building their vehicle according to the enclosed instructions and the following documents that the pack has created: Pinewood Derby Rules(Summary), Official Rules(Long), and Frequently Asked Questions.   Paint and decorate the car any way you wish and bring it to the Springboro Junior High School on race day, Saturday, March 15, 2007.  As in the past, the races will be staggered by rank. This year we will be starting with the Tigers. (See the race / registration schedule below.) Trophies will be awarded to the fastest cars in each age group. The winning cars will be pitted against each other to determine the fastest car in the pack. Awards will also be given for vehicle design in a variety of categories.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!   If you could spare a few hours to help out with one or more of the Pinewood Derby events, the Scouts would really appreciate it. Contact John Ulrich

The Pinewood Derby is made up of the following events:
  • Pinewood Derby Workshop (Sun., Feb. 24th:  2PM-4PM): A virtual woodworking shop is set up at the United Methodist Church with saws, drills, sanders, scales, and even a lead melting pot (for getting the cars as close to 5oz as possible). Scouts are invited to bring their kits and work on any or all steps of their construction.
  • Pinewood Derby Time Trial (Sun., March 9th:  (TIME CHANGE) 3:30PM-5:30PM): The Pinewood Derby 6 lane race track is set up at the United Methodist Church. Scouts are invited to test their car on the track for physical compliance and performance.
  • Pinewood Derby RACE DAY (Sat., March 15th:  10:30am at the Springboro Junior High - See below for scheduling details): This is the big event. Scouts compete in 6 heats. The 6 cars with the best overall time in each age division, race in 6 additional heats to determine the fastest car. Prizes are awarded for the fastest cars in each division. There are also prizes for design.
