Pack 730 Rocket Rally Saturday, July 19, 2008 Patricia Allyn Park 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Scouts and their family members can order a rocket kit with 3 motors for $10 from Pack 730 while supplies last*. Or find your own model rocket and engines and come join the fun! *We have kits for sale on a first-come, first-serve basis. Launch pads and technical assistance will be provided!

Q: Where is the Pack 730 "Rocket Rally" going to be held this year?
A: The same place as last year: at Patricia Allyn Park on July 19th from 10:00 AM 1:00 PM. -
Q: What is the "Rain Date" for the Rocket Rally?
A: There is none; it's a "rain or shine" event. We *WILL* cancel the event if there is any sign of lightening. -
Q: Where is Patricia Allyn Park located?
A: Patricia Allyn Park is in Clearcreek Township on State Route 48. The park is on the east side of State Route 48, three-tenths of a mile south of the intersection of State Routes 73 and 48. -
Q: Is the Rocket Rally only open to boys currently in Pack 730?
A: No, this event is open to our Scouts AND their families. Older and younger brothers or sisters, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or cousins - all are welcome! The more, the merrier! -
Q: We had to use an official BSA kit to build our Pinewood Derby cars. Is there an "official" BSA model rocket kit we have to use to participate in the Rocket Rally?
A: No. You can build and fly any sort of model rocket you want at the Rocket Rally; it’s a true "Run What You Bring" event. You are only limited by your budget, time and building skills. We have a large, open area for launching, so go as high as you dare! -
Q: Where can I buy my model rocket kit?
A: Model rockets of various sizes and complexities can be purchased at chain stores (K-Mart, Wal-Mart), at hobby stores (Hobby Lobby, The Hobby Shop, HobbyTownUSA) and from many online sources (just do a search for "model rocket"). Additionally, Pack 730 has a limited number of model rocket kits to sell. If you’re interested in buying a rocket from the Pack, contact Jon Ratliff at Jonathan.Ratliff@Kodak.com
A: The price is the same for either model: $10 which gets you one (1) model rocket kit and three (3) Standard-size (18mm) engines of the correct type for the model. (As rocket motors are rather fragile - not to mention flammable - we'll give you tickets which you will exchange for your rocket motors at the Rocket Rally.)
A: We have two models, the "Astra" and the "Starhawk", both from Quest Aerospace. We have a limited number of each available on a "first come, first serve" basis.
A: The "Astra" has three fins which are attached individually and uses a parachute for recovery. The "Starhawk" has a single piece fin unit, and uses streamers for recover instead of a parachute. For more details go to http://www.questaerospace.com.
A: The one-piece plastic fin unit of the "Starhawk" simplifies construction; but its streamer recovery is less "showy" than the parachute recovery of the "Astra". All things being equal, I'd suggest the "Starhawk" for Tiger or Wolf age kids and the "Astra" for Bears and WEBELOS age kids.
A: We’ll have some extra Standard-size (18mm) motors - correct for the "Starhawk" and "Astra" - for sale at the Rocket Rally. These will be sold on a "first come, first serve" basis and we may sell out quickly. NOTE: Rocket motors come in different sizes and types, so there's no guarantee the motors we'll at the Rocket Rally will fit models *other* than the "Starhawk" and "Astra". Botom line: If you want to be able to fly your model rocket as much as you'd like, you'd be wise to bring extra motors of the correct size and type with you.
A: After the Rocket Rally, I’ll be happy to loan you the equipment you’ll need to launch your rocket on your own.
